I do not believe that the current x86_64 nvidia supports kernel 2.6. You need to use a patched driver from minion.com or just install the packaged nvidia driver from the Yast Online Update. (which should be the minion driver RPMed for your convenience)

Hi,
have a problem here with Suse 9.1 an the nvidia 5332 driver. With the beginning of installation, the installer is telling me, that he is unable to load kernel module 'nvidia.o'. I have installed the standard-kernel (2.6.4-52-default) and the kernel-sources, that comes with the dvd. What is going wrong? Any suggestions?
Kindly Regards

www.minion.de. In 2.6 it is nvidia.ko, all 2.6 modules end in .ko or is nvidia.o a SuSEism? Regards Sid.

Sorry, perhaps it was .de not .com ... but if he was trying to install the stock driver from nvidia it would be nvidia.o, because the drivers are not kernel 2.6 compatible... only 2.4. The patch from minion allows you to work around that. (I couldn't begin to explain how, however) If you use Yast Online Update (YOU) you can download and install an rpm based nvidia driver which is nothing more than the minion patched nvidia driver. So, rundown, nvidia.com = 2.4 minion.de/YOU = 2.6
