Just installed 9.1 on MSI amd64. Sound is via-82xx. No sound in KDE. No errors. Tried setting volumes using kmix. I haven't tried non-kde. Seems others have the same problem. Any solution?
Hi - I had the same problem with the Fujitsu-Siemens D1607 motherboard (VIA onboard sound). After installation no sound, I tried all the VIA drivers in yast and always got an error when yast tried to restart the sound system. I solved this by compiling and installing the latest alsa driver. Don't panic - it is no hassle at all. Here is in short what I did: 1. Download alsa 1.04 driver, libraries, utilities from http://www.alsa-project.org/ 2. Follow the instructions at http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/doc-php/template.php?company=VIA&card=&chip=via82c686a&module=via82xx You have to have the kernel sources installed for it to work. After the procedure I had sound. I didn't try any fancy, so I don't know if sound works with all the bells and whistles. Hope that helps gl Side question: I had to reinstall the kernel sources to be able to compile. I installed all the latest patches with YOU during the installation of 9.1 and checked "Remove source packages...". Could that be the reason that I didn't have the complete kernel sources anymore? It may sound stupid, but I always thought that src.rpm packages were meant to be removed, if I check the option. -- Gnter Lichtenberg ========>mailto:lichten@sron.nl SRON (EOS) Sorbonnelaan 2 3584 CA UTRECHT the Netherlands Tel.: +31 30 253 5719 FAX : +31 30 254 0860
