Hi, I don't know if my question is IN- or OFF-topic, but (Alway for the temperature, do you remeber my email?) in my ASUS notebook with suse 9.2 Professional, the AMD64's temperatur cpu processor is from 52 to 58 celsius degree.
Is this normal ?
It's pushing it. I've seen my AMD64 notebook hug that temperature a few times, but that is only when I have it runnung high intense apps with it unplugged or in charging state due to battery heat; running at 100% capacity at all times.
You may want to have the cooling system and fan checked out.

Hi, I don't know if this applies to all AMD chips, but the last one I had (32 bit) rarely went into 'quiet/idle state' mode (the technical word escapes me) (like the Intel chip does). This is to improve the response time. But this keeps the chip hot. There is software available to put it to sleep, but I only saw a M$ Windows version. But this should not be the cause. But the real issue could be that the heat sink has not been perfectly 'welded'/pasted to the chip - if this is the case then it might pay to return it to the supplier. Don't blow it up! Good luck, Colin
