Hello, once again, we recently had a discussion at the Marketing mailinglist about communication via skype for a better communication between the ambassadors. My account is okuro.oikawa. Well, I can't see exactly what are the advantages of using Skype for communication between Ambassadors, in particular, why all Ambassadors *should* have and open their Skype accounts. I don't oppose to using Skype as appropriate. For example, when some Ambassadors want to have a talk for an upcoming event they are going to attend or organize, talking to each other in their own language via Skype (or other VoIP and video conferencing applications such as Ekiga) would be helpful. But there is no need for *all* Ambassadors to have and open their Skype accounts - if some Ambassadors want to communicate via Skype, they can personally tell their accounts each other since all Ambassadors have opened their email address already (I know there still are many Ambassadors who haven't created their User page on new Wiki, though) and we can ask others accounts individually via email when needed. Skype (or any other similar applications) is a *personal* communication tool, rather than a *public* one. It is not good for *open* communications such as meetings and discussions for teams. I have to agree with Satoru here. Skype is good for one-on-one conversations and you should use it if it helps you to quickly communicate with someone else. But to use it as an official tool for general Ambassador meetings? No. Why? Because how will you record and log the meeting? Such conversations will not be effective for those who were unable to attend the meeting. And besides, why should we set a bad example by promoting a non-free software like Skype? It just seems ironic that we wish to be ambassadors preaching the great and free open source openSUSE and then we use Skype. Use something else like Ekiga. Bryen

I find it astonishing that Skype was even suggested. Perhaps I'll make my point this way: # zypper search skype Loading repository data... Reading installed packages... What's its the problem with IRC? If we are going to organize something, why not go to the usual channel and speak? Just a question, because, I don't see why to reinvent the wheel about this. ++ for IRC. Its already a well used medium and works perfectly for 'large' discussions, plus logging it is easy since most IRC clients support logging functionality. -Matt -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-ambassadors+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-ambassadors+help@opensuse.org

Hi all, I think it is perfectly fine to hold meetings on IRC. There is one thing that kind of gets me thinking is the day for the meeting. As for me , it is absolutely impossible to attend the meetings because I cannot access IRC at my current job :/ Maybe a second day could be saturday? how many of you are in the same position? Just a thought. Well, keep in mind the meetings are logged to a web site for review at a later time. I find myself reading over them to go over points I may have missed etc. -Matt -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-ambassadors+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-ambassadors+help@opensuse.org
