Hi Please welcome Marc our newest ambassador. Here is a bit more about him in his own words
* What have you done already for openSUSE?
I've done a little wiki cleanup, but only when I run across grammar/translation errors. I'm always vocal about open source and Linux, and of course when I'm recommending a distro, I naturally suggest openSUSE! I always keep a LiveCD or DVD handy to give away.
* What are your plans for promoting openSUSE? Please tell us what you want to do the next 6 months.
There is no local LUG where I live, so I'd really like to get one started. Also, I'm making plans to give a single-session presentation on free and open source software at the public library and give away some openSUSE install media at the end; that way I can schedule a follow-up install how-to event if there is interest. I plan to attend the Mid-America GNU/Linux Networkers Conference in St. Louis, MO (http://magnetcon.info) and would love to man a table (possibly with help from a more experienced ambassador?).
* Are you ready to start promoting openSUSE?
I'm ready to be more intentional in my promotion of openSUSE - to move from one-on-one promotion to a broader approach.
* What do you think is the best kept secret of openSUSE?
Command-line YaST, no question about it. With a great tool like YaST that runs without X, I have to wonder - why isn't everyone using openSUSE for minimal machines?
* Why do you love to do this?
I like to learn. I get excited about what I'm learning and I want to teach others what I'm learning, too.
* How did you start with with Linux/openSUSE? What is your level of experience?
I've been using Linux for ~5 years. I started with Debian at home on a spare computer and within a month I was using it on my main home computer and teaching my wife to make the transition. I tried several distros, like many new Linux users. My first openSUSE was 10.1. I loved KDE3 and put openSUSE on my work laptop. Within six months I had converted my church 100% to Linux for office, web development and sound recording. I've done a little bash scripting for problem solving, compiled some kernels, rebuilt rpms and general this-and-that, but no real coding. Linux has meant a lot of learning, but it has been lots of fun and I look forward to learning a lot more! -- http://opensuse.gr http://amb.opensuse.gr http://own.opensuse.gr http://warlordfff.tk me I am not me ------- Time travel is possible, you just need to know the right aliens -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-ambassadors+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-ambassadors+help@opensuse.org
