Dear all, There is a major possibility that in July we will perform a single day event in University Fernando Pessoa in the city of Porto, Portugal. This event is being projected for a single, not using any kind of funding and taking advantage of the people's commitment. Since we are running on limiting resources, it's going to be quite easy planning and practical, and will consist in 2 blocks: 1 - Morning, Linux Install Fest/Party; 2 - Afternoon, a group of talks regarding Linux and Free Software; 3 - Not a part of the event, but we will gather up in a local restaurant for a socialization dinner opened to whoever shows up. The goals with this event are quite simple: 1 - End the inertia of the local natives and motivate them to create similar events through the universities; 2 - Say a clear message: "openSUSE is alive and has some faces in Portugal"; 3 - Establish contact with academical environments; 4 - Promote Linux and Free Software. 5 - Check corporate tissue to possible more complex event sponsorship in the future. 6 - Evaluate the impact of the Portuguese Forums (which will be available soon) in the local native community and mobilization capabilities amongst the local native community. 7 - Check for local information distribution channels and maybe establish some 'partnerships' for future events press, also evaluate their impact and mobilization capabilities. 8 - Sensibilize the Universities to run local openSUSE official mirrors and interact more with our communities. Operational Details: 1 - Linux Install Party: 1.1 - Other communities enthusiasts invited to participate and deploy they favourite distro's for visitors (subtile way of having free man power); 1.2 - Myself and João will mainly be installing LiveCD's into USB sticks and providing images (if we have media available, cool, else we'll work this out using our own resources); 1.3 - Establish contact with the community and collect some data. 2 - Talks: 2.1 - A set of 3 to 5 talks regarding several issues. So far I'm available for one talk, same with Carlos Gonçalves for another. Since we're not running budgets, I will most likely invite people I know who can speak about Linux and deployment (maybe a few engineers from Portugal Telecom, Eurotux and NFSi Telecom), since I know them personally and they were members of former projects, in many cases I worked with them in the past, we might sort it out. 2.2 - No themes yet available, though I would love to see some topics about openSUSE community and others about something that matches the students programmatic contents being lectured. Many people on this list have far more experience in this than either me or João, so any advice, ideas and such are really welcomed. A few questions: 1. Me and João are running on own funds, and don't require any sponsorship. We do this, because we want to. Nevertheless, I would love to invite Luís Medinas which can provide a far more useful talk about GNOME and software engineering, considering we will have hight attendance from local students. He lives in Lisbon which around 370Km from Porto. A Alpha Train Ticket (fastest train in Portugal) for both ways costs around 60€'s. I doubt there is the need to stay overnight in Porto since it's a single day event. Would be possible to get sponsorship for travelling in case Luís is available to go there? (Luís is a member of openSUSE GNOME Team and the maintainer of Brasero). High visibility contributor, and local native. 2. Since we're kinda introducing the openSUSE Community to the local population, would anyone from Marketing, maybe Jos willing to come here? Porto has an airport which operates with several low cost companies, and you can get a ticket most likely for a very cheap price. Local Hotels (3/4 starts) will be running around 35/100€'s per night. There's a metro from the airport to the city center, which is cheap, though I can personally do any transports by car if required. 3. Anyway we can have 100CD's/DVD's and the same number of stickers? 4. Anyway we can have a vertical openSUSE banner like those used on OSC2010? If you can mail it to me, I will mail it back from my own funds, the metal supports are not required, as i can find some locally. 5. Anyone willing to document the procedures around this? The main goal is to provide a small set of procedures and encourage students to run this 'no funds powered' events in local Universities. Should actually trigger some competition and become viral. 6. Community members - I'm far from knowing everyone on the project, anyway people involved with upstream projects can check if there are Portuguese people willing to go there and have a talk? Example, people from KDE, etc. Any information, experience you want to share, ideas, etc are very welcomed. Nelson Marques. PS: Keep in mind we want this events 'deployment capable' without much funds involved. As then everyone can run them with a bit of effort! -- Nelson Marques /* As cicatrizes lembram-nos de onde estivemos, mas não ditam para onde vamos */ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-ambassadors+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-ambassadors+help@opensuse.org
