Support for HD5xxx was only added to radeon very recently, and the support needs to be ported across to radeonhd once some of the initial problems are worked out.
Unless you have built radeon from git master in the last few days you may find you are actually running vesa rather than radeon, btw.
I check out the sources from git, compiled & installed them. I get the
same error when setting radeonhd as the driver in xorg.conf:
