I now have a need to get openVPN up and running and I have ran into some snags getting it working. I have been asking on the openVPN support forums for help, and I got told, rather bluntly, that they do not support using openVPN with the KDE Networkmanager as they consider it too buggy. So I decided to go back to using the ifup/ifdown methods
I've been using the KDE networkmanager plasmoid to connect to two openVPN networks without important problems for years. What are your problems, KDE, openSUSE versions?
That said, I will also point out that executing -
iwlist wlan0 scan
does show me information on various access points, so that means the Atheros adapter is working, to some extent. But after doing an ifup wlan0, iwconfig shows me that I did not establish a connection or get assigned an IP address from my DHCP server. I took the DHCP server out of the equation by trying to assign my laptop a static IP, but no joy getting that to work either, it simply acts like there is no network whatsoever...
Anyone got any ideas on how and what I should do to get good ol trusty ifup/ifdown working again? Thanks in advance for helping me... I will be happy to send a copy of my ifcfg files and log files if that will help, but I don't want to overwhelm readers with too much info just yet, until I am asked for it.
