I would like to try it for 11.4 as well, and I see the directory for doing so.
My question is: Is it Time Yet?
A minor inconvenience here or there I can deal with, but crashing and burning, and gnashing of teeth would not be what I'm looking for just yet.
How stable is 4.8
John,
I have found very little difference in 4.7.4 and 4.8 except the kdm theme... I don't use the kdepim stuff at all so I can't comment there. I think what we see with kde4 is pretty much what we are going to get. My only lingering frustration is the desktop feels clunky and slow compared to 3.5 and the power-user apps and their configs remain awkward. Same complaints with konqueror --profile filemanagement. konsole is fine, but kate/kwrite edit-window focus/outline/border highlight thing makes using a dark theme impossible without completely disabling that feature oxygen wide (oxygen-settings, Widget Style, Views, uncheck 'Draw focus indicator'.) Thank God ksnapshot will now allow you to save .jpg files instead of .jpeg file...
I salute the devs for their hard work on kde4 and persevering to implement the visions of those who gathered in Berlin during March 2005. Unfortunately for me, the design decisions and visions for kde4 have resulted in a desktop that I no longer have any desire to use. That being said, I find 4.8 to work fine... Installed it, spent the weekend running it through its paces, then dumped it and went back to kde3.
Well, I've been on KDE 4.6.3 (Opensuse 11.4) for quite a long time and It does everything I need. I've been very happy with this combo. Everything works for me, and dark themes are not my bag anyway. KDE4 is eminently useable now that activities aren't any more forced upon you, or at least they work quietly and don't get in my face anymore) I've decided to give 12.1 a pass, and wait for 12.2 or maybe .4 when all the systemd stuff is smoothed out. In the mean time, I'm two point releases behind on KDE, and was thinking of catching up with 4.8 since there appear to be packages available for 11.4. Just looking to see if there are any show stoppers. Somewhere I have a KDE3 machine in a VM (Mepis Linux) I have no idea why I keep it. Nostalgia I guess. -- _____________________________________ ---This space for rent--- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
