I am using Gnome. Still no success, but I am not sophisticated linux user and just trying to hang on with OpenSuse long enough to become proficient. Something I did gave me the option to run epiphany as browser, so I am trying that one for now. Thanks Mike On 04/09/2011 08:32 AM, C wrote:

I am new to OpenSuse, so if the fix is not easy, I better just suffer along with the beta version of Firefox that installed with 11.4. You should be able to update to the full Firefox 4 release using YaST Software manager.
But I have installed Opera and it is faster at loading than FF, so I would prefer to use that one for now. Opera is a nice browser choice.
When I go to Control Center and Preferred Application, I only have FF showing up, there is no option to switch to Opera. Any help is appreciated. This is my third or fourth attempt to switch to Linux. I think I am going to make it this time. Are you using KDE4 or Gnome?
In KDE4, you click on the Geeko (menu)> Configure Desktop> Workspace and Behavior> Default Applications> Web Browser. Select "in the following browser" and then on the right hand side of the field that says firefox, there is a button with an ellipsis (three dots). Click it, and navigate through the menus to Internet> Web browser> Opera (or you can type opera %U in the field that currently says Firefox).
