[opensuse] FireFox 4 - Status Bar? which one is the normal good old standard status bar?
Guys, Firefox 4 is driving me nuts. What do you mean "there is no status bar?" Can't we just have a browser that comes complete anymore? Why do I have to go hunting and pecking through some list of available (and of dubious origin) add-ons just to get what has already been there back? Which brings me to the point of this frustrating process. What, out of the miriad of add-ons, will give me the normal firefox status bar back? Thanks. The status bar is now called (?)Additional Bar and you select it by doing View//Toolbars. BC -- "I believe what I am programmed to believe." A robot in Futuruma -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

So you mean I didn't need that "Status-4-Evar" add-on the mozilla site said I did? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I've never heard of this "Status-4-Evar" until now. So, from where I sit all you needed to do was to View/Toobars/Additional Toolbar. BC -- "I believe what I am programmed to believe." I am new to OpenSuse, so if the fix is not easy, I better just suffer along with the beta version of Firefox that installed with 11.4. But I have installed Opera and it is faster at loading than FF, so I would prefer to use that one for now. When I go to Control Center and Preferred Application, I only have FF showing up, there is no option to switch to Opera. Any help is appreciated. This is my third or fourth attempt to switch to Linux. I think I am going to make it this time. Thanks Mike On 04/08/2011 09:44 PM, Basil Chupin wrote:

You should be able to update to the full Firefox 4 release using YaST Software manager.

Opera is a nice browser choice.

Are you using KDE4 or Gnome? In KDE4, you click on the Geeko (menu) > Configure Desktop > Workspace and Behavior > Default Applications > Web Browser. Select "in the following browser" and then on the right hand side of the field that says firefox, there is a button with an ellipsis (three dots). Click it, and navigate through the menus to Internet > Web browser > Opera (or you can type opera %U in the field that currently says Firefox). I am using Gnome. Still no success, but I am not sophisticated linux user and just trying to hang on with OpenSuse long enough to become proficient. Something I did gave me the option to run epiphany as browser, so I am trying that one for now. Thanks Mike On 04/09/2011 08:32 AM, C wrote:

Hi It's there, maybe not visible, when I installed my usual adblock, showip and httpfox it's there as well as the 'add-on' bar. -- Cheers Malcolm °¿° (Linux Counter #276890) SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11 (x86_64) Kernel 2.6.32.29-0.3-default up 2 days 8:34, 2 users, load average: 2.19, 1.60, 1.38 GPU GeForce 8600 GTS Silent - Driver Version: 260.19.26 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

That's the one I grabbed and so far, it is working like it should. We are all creatures of habit when you get right down to it and we have been trained to use the ff status bar, it's where download statusbar goes, its where the noscript applet goes and without one, somebody thought it was a cute idea to cram all that crap up into the normal titlebar --- wrong-o marilou... We'll see how it goes :) -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
