Maybe we could put something together for this. I think it would be great if we had something where a developer could start the page and then others could modify it but the changes would have to go though the maintainer. step 1: developer submits to open a new documentation from a central manpage project maintainer/moderator.. or what ever we would call that person step 2: developer writes a man page or opens a placeholder for one. step 3: someone goes onto the manpage and can write a section and hit submit. then the developer will be notified and all he/she would have to do is hit approve or reject. Maybe there is a project like this out there but I have not found anything of real value in my searches. If we were to do something like this with the openSUSE community as a real community effort I think it could be really helpful. Drew On Friday, January 21, 2011 02:19:15 am Roger Oberholtzer wrote:

hello everyone! Is there a project like wikipedia but for man pages or info pages? If so, where is it? If not... do you think it would be a good idea for the openSUSE community to start/foster such a project?

Personally NO but then i cant stand this Wiki idea thing never found it anything like friendly or useable maybe thats just me but i would kill Wiki off at a stroke ..
It is a matter of the right tool for the right job. Web-based collaboration can be useful in some tasks.
The 'problem' with a wiki page for this type of information is that some user's opinion on how a program runs may not in fact be how it is. Program documentation that is a user's opinion is of questionable use. The documentation must come from the code developers. Of course, the documentation may be improved by user input. Requests for clarifications or examples. But that could only be ancillary to the real documentation.
