My test machine is an older laptop with 1GB of ram. I allocated 512 MB for the VM. It was also the default. <snipped>
Greg,
What is the processor in your 'older' laptop?
older is pre-core 2 for sure. Its a P4 Mobile 1.7 GHz. So it may be too old for what I'm trying to do.
Mine has an Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo T5800 mobile processor. Two of the battery saving features of this processor are:
1. a smaller L2 cache 2. Intel(R) VT-x is not built into the chip
Check your processor here http://ark.intel.com/VTList.aspx
It definitely is pre-VT. :) OS 11.2 Net Install is actually chugging along now (very slowly), so I have the basics working. I bumped the 11.1 net and KDE live CD to 736 MB, and they still appear to freeze on the black screen. 11.1 is my real goal. I may just have to use a better machine.
hth & regards,
Carl
