Aaah! This is actually very familiar and at one point was the cause of a lot of frustration for me but found a work around that gave me suitable stability (see below). I suppose this is somewhat anecdotal, but the work around for me was to use dolphin without the information panel open. I had previously (wrongly) assumed it was nepomuk related as I had been using that from an early stage.
