what is the matter with setting it to: en_US.UTF-8
note that case and punctuation is necessar, utf8 will NOT work.
--- Got that -- and I get this upon login:
-bash: warning: setlocale: LC_TIME: cannot change locale (en_US.UTF-8): No such file or directory -bash: warning: setlocale: LC_TIME: cannot change locale (en_US.UTF-8) -bash: warning: setlocale: LC_TIME: cannot change locale (en_US.UTF-8)
locale locale: Cannot set LC_ALL to default locale: No such file or directory LANG=en_US.UTF-8 LC_CTYPE="en_US.UTF-8" ...
and every manpage starts with:
man: can't set the locale; make sure $LC_* and $LANG are correct
Ok, then. I mentioned that the locales come in glib-locale? Run rpm -qa | grep -i locale to check. Then try: locale -a | grep en to see what English locales the system finds. Then try running commands with different locales. Like: cer@minas-tirith:~> LC_ALL=es_ES.UTF-8 man man Man: find all matching manual pages * man (1) man (1+) man (7) man (1p) Man: ¿Qué página de manual desea? Man: ^C cer@minas-tirith:~> Try "LC_ALL=en_GB.UTF-8", "LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8"... - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R.
