I have updated to the latest compiz in X11:/XGL and it works flawlessly, even boo-hoo emerald works fine. Install was accomplished by selecting the X11:/XGL repository and _disabling_ X11:/Compiz. After install, I deleted ~/.config/compiz (leaving ~/.emerald untouched from 0.7.6) and logging out and logging back in and starting compiz with fusion-icon. The packages installed are:
00:19 alchemy~/.config> rpm -qa | grep compiz compiz-fusion-plugins-main-0.7.8-3.2 compiz-0.7.8-8.1 compiz-emerald-themes-0.6.0-16.1 libcompizconfig-0.7.8-3.3 compiz-fusion-plugins-extra-0.7.8-4.1 compiz-kde-0.7.8-8.1 compiz-emerald-0.7.8-2.3 compizconfig-settings-manager-0.7.8-2.3 python-compizconfig-0.7.8-2.3
I am going to give it a try. Using the compiz that shipped on the 11.0 disc with the ATI drivers from the repository caused random lock-ups on otherwise stable hardware.
Andrew, When using the ATI fglrx driver, don't forget the "Extensions" section of your xorg.conf: Section "Extensions" Option "Composite" "true" Option "DAMAGE" "true" EndSection -- David C.
