[opensuse] New Compiz 0.7.8-8 in X11:/XGL Works Perfect!
Mates, I have updated to the latest compiz in X11:/XGL and it works flawlessly, even boo-hoo emerald works fine. Install was accomplished by selecting the X11:/XGL repository and _disabling_ X11:/Compiz. After install, I deleted ~/.config/compiz (leaving ~/.emerald untouched from 0.7.6) and logging out and logging back in and starting compiz with fusion-icon. The packages installed are: 00:19 alchemy~/.config> rpm -qa | grep compiz compiz-fusion-plugins-main-0.7.8-3.2 compiz-0.7.8-8.1 compiz-emerald-themes-0.6.0-16.1 libcompizconfig-0.7.8-3.3 compiz-fusion-plugins-extra-0.7.8-4.1 compiz-kde-0.7.8-8.1 compiz-emerald-0.7.8-2.3 compizconfig-settings-manager-0.7.8-2.3 python-compizconfig-0.7.8-2.3 All works great. A courtesy screenshot for disbelievers: http://www.3111skyline.com/download/screenshots/compiz/compiz-rotate_0.7.8-8... The bugs from Sunday are gone (ksnapshot works, and I can log in and log out). Note: I have also tried the same install with the 0.7.8-3 packages that are new in compiz and the problems from the weekend linger (ksnapshot hidded/delayed execution - can't log out with compiz running) Great Job! Great Job! Thanks J for all your help.
For J, Danny and the rest of the Compiz devs: Job well done. 0.7.8-8 is a much smoother and faster implementation than any of the previous releases. I don't know what was done to rotation or to the work-arounds, but rotation is now smooth as silk on the same x86_64 hardware where before it was a bit more jumpy and sluggish. 0.7.6 worked great, but 0.7.8-8 looks like an overwhelming refinement of what was a good thing. One question lingers though, "What was the issue with 0.7.8-2?" Whatever it was, it has been relegated to history now.... Thanks. Also, if you would like someone to test new releases on 11.0 x86_64 hardware, with fully updated kde 3.5.9 before they go public, shoot me an email and I'll be happy to do it. I can usually give you an answer within the hour. -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E. Just confirming that this works great on 11.0 with KDE 3.5.10. I agree 0.7.8 is much better then 0.7.4 or even 0.7.6. How much code did you guys rip out :D I don't use too much bling just Cube Rotation, Wobbly Windows and Enhanced Zoom. Just million lines of code from next generation compiz with NOMAD is missing in packages from X11:XGL. The packages in X11:Compiz still contains "cutting-edge" technology that created havoc on some of your setups. I am going to give it a try. Using the compiz that shipped on the 11.0 disc with the ATI drivers from the repository caused random lock-ups on otherwise stable hardware. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Andrew, When using the ATI fglrx driver, don't forget the "Extensions" section of your xorg.conf: Section "Extensions" Option "Composite" "true" Option "DAMAGE" "true" EndSection -- David C.
