So, I am installing Compiz 6.0 (or so it seems) from the XGL Build Service, and wanted to check to see if there was an announcement on compiz.org, and nothing..

Is this going to be the "Stable" release? Damn I sure hope so..

Ben,
Tell me how you got it to work. I have gone by 2 different howtos specific for my ATI card and I still cant get compiz to do anything other than bring my desktop to its knees. Literally watching each pixel get drawn. This on my Toshiba P35, ATI 9700, 1G of RAM.
Do you have a favorite link you will post? I would love to check compiz out. I get the compiz icon in the task bar, I restart the desktop, but nothing.... I seem to have everything installed:
[root Rankin-P35a/home/david] # rpm -qa | grep compiz compiz-fusion-plugins-extra-0.5.2_git070824-22 compiz-emerald-0.5.2_git070825-1.4 compiz-fusion-kde-0.5.2-3.1 compiz-emerald-themes-0.5.2_git070825-2.6 compiz-fusion-plugins-main-0.5.2_git070824-22 compizconfig-settings-manager-0.5.2_git070825-22 compiz-kde-0.5.4-40.2 libcompizconfig-0.5.2_git070824-22 libcompizconfig-backend-gconf-0.5.2_git070824-23 compiz-0.5.4-40.2 libcompizconfig-backend-kconfig-0.5.2_git070825-1.4 compiz-manager-0.0.1_git071011-6.1 python-compizconfig-0.5.2_git070825-22
Though it looks like I'm one version behind. Any help would be greatly appreciated. In the mean time, I'll install 0.6.0 and see if that helps.
No joy. Same result. After installing 0.6.0, I can get gnome-xgl-switch --enable-xgl to work. I have disabled window translucency, and I have followed both http://en.opensuse.org/Compiz-Fusion, and http://linux.wordpress.com/2007/10/12/opensuse-103-running-compiz-fusion-usi... What happens is that restarting x with "rcxdm restart" bombs dropping you to the console. startx as user kills the mouse light and hard locks the machine. startx as root will get x going, but you could watch grass grow faster than the display works. I would still like to get Compiz working if possible, so any other help would be greatly appreciated. -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E.
