Ouch, 9.2? I guess you know that's been unsupported for awhile. I don't remember back that far, but on suse 10.2, there's no need for the stuff you put in rc.local - it's all handled by a suse init scripts called boot.videobios. At any rate, I'd bet you'd get better performance and better support for all the capabilities of your video card with a more current version of the distro.
