Thank you for the suggestions, I will give Kmail a try or all of the
other if that does not work.
James: I meant and MS Exchange server, sorry, I have been accused of
thinking to many things at the same time and saying nothing before ...

In my KDE menu (KDE -> System -> Desktop Applet) is an entry for
an "Email monitor" called KBiff.
I haven't used it and don't know exactly what it can do, but you might
want to check it out.
