If you go to KDE's control center, in the peripherals section there is an entry "joystick" where you should be able to test if it works or not
Thanks for pointing out the KDE control center entry for a joystick. It was unable to identify the presence of a joystick checking its default /dev/xxx entries. I wonder if I need to specify that it needs to look at some /dev/USB... type entry.
I just grabbed my kids Saitek rumble pad USB game controller and DKE control center and it showed up in the joystick section.
Well an interesting development. The YAST-Hardware-Joystick module says it only applies to soundcard joysticks. BUT, after I plugged in the joystick I checked Hardware-Hardware Information and found an entry for the joystick. I then checked the KDE joystick module and it was there. All is well. Thanks for getting me to persevere! Curiously the KDE module indicated it had found an entirely different /dev... entry than it said it was unable to find before; odd.
