What have I broken here? Can you help?
Probably the CD is bad, or slightly so. Still, you could try a manual mount...
Some people claim good results "washing" the CD with water and mild soap, but I would be afraid to try. But, if everything fails :-?
To clean a CD or a DVD use methylated spirits (denatured alcohol)- metho does not damage the plastic.
I use a Kleenex tissue "rolled" into a ball, some metho on it (just enough to make it moist but not saturated) and then using a circular motion go around the surface of the DVD. After the metho evaporates (a few seconds or so ) I then use another tissue with the same motion to polish the surface. Been doing this for a few years now.
Cheers.
And you would have been cleaning them wrong for years then! Everybody knows or should know you don't clean a CD in a circular motion all the way around the CD! Why you ask? Because if you scratch it, then you scratch it all the way around the disc, making a complete sector unreadable, thus pretty much making the disc useless. And a kleenex? You're just asking for trouble aren't you? If you do some research on the matter, you'll find that you should clean this type media with an up & down motion across the the disc, from the outer edge to the center, thus eliminating any danger of destroying a complete sector. You've been lucky or maybe you haven't always, but didn't know it was you that killed it. regards, Lee -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com
