There are also some other persistent problems with xterms. One I had just
now, is that the terminal stopped accepting "dead keys", those used to
type accented letters, like á, é, í, ó, or ú. This happens seldom, but
twice this week. In those cases, the only remedy I found is to exit xterm
and restart another one. Typing "reset" doesn't help.
Another one that happens very often, in gnome at least, is when switching,
say, from "mozilla" in another workspace to xterm: it seems the keyboard
buffer retains some control code, and the first letter I type is
interpreted as a command. It happens regardless of what I have in the
xterm: pine, bash, mc, but the effects differ. I don't know if it is a
problem specific to xterm or to gnome or both, but it has been occurring
for years. Both problems, in fact.
