Hi,
I run SuSE since release 7.1 without problem, but I just built a new computer :
- Asus P5WD2 Premium motherboard, Intel 955X chipset - Pentium extreme edition (Pentium 840 dual core with hyperthreading) processor - 1 GB DDR2 memory - Nvidia GeForce 7800 GTX Pci express - Hitachi T7k250 Sata2 250 GB disk - Hitachi 7k500 Sata2 500 GB disk - IDE DVD rom and IDE DVD writer

There's that word again (Asus) and the many problems with Linux compatibility that follow it. That would be the first thing I'd try changing. Many of us have warned others about ASUS motherboards.
Sorry for your troubles.

This reply is just to tell you, that I run SuSE from 7.1 with an AsuS CUV4XDLS motherboard without any difficulty. I'll manage to succeed in spite of your advice.

Linux did and does run fine on older ASUS boards it is the newer boards that are a pain in the neck to install on. I have a P2B-DS machine that I have no problems with but I would not buy a newer board from ASUS because of their policy towards Linux users which is -no- support. -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989, linux since 1994, SuSE since 1998
