In the last year and a half I have twice tried to get Adaptec's less-expesive zero slot/channel raid cards (e.g. 2015S) to work in my Tyan Opteron motherboards. First with SuSE SLES8, then with SLES 9. My server integrator worked with Adaptec and Tyan both times for a total of six weeks - but no joy. In both cases we have gone with Intel SRCU42L RAID cards and been quite happy. They are about twice as much as the zero-channel RAID cards ($450 US versus about $215 US) BUT ... they just work. I've had to hack together the RAID monitoring utility (icp_utils) but they seem to work reasonably. But the Intel card has more than paid for itself - even if I just value my time at $5 per hour :) Adaptec's HostRaid solution is an attempt to compete against inexpensive (no-processor) ATA RAID solutions without cannibalizing their full function RAID controllers. And they do not seem to want to support Linux with their less expensive adapters - either HostRaid or zero-channel RAID. HTH - Richard BTW: Yes, its a little ironic I'm using an Intel RAID adapter in AMD processor powered servers. Fergus Wilde wrote:

Complain to Adaptec who don't want to offer an open source driver or at least the specs to enable the community to come up with a driver.

Certainly take Philipp's point here, but since Adaptec won't cough up, *is* there a good U320 hardware raid card that works flawlessy with SuSE 9.2? I tried the hardware database but (as not infrequently with the hcd) didn't seem to find devices mentioned that I was able to actually source in the shops. Perhaps I am not searching it right ...
