The obvious answer is shown above, you have libXft.so.1 installed but -not- libXft.so.2. You will need to also upgrade libXft as well.
Yes, I know that, but where can I find it? At home I have SUSE 9.1 and everything works fine, at work we are using 8.1. I could try to build it myself but I hope for a more easy solution like a staticly linked firefox or one that uses the older Xft library. Upgrading to 9.1 is currently not an option because of the installed base.
