Did just that along with the latest release of xsane and it's development libraries and installed all the programs. What "seems" to have made the difference (the only things I actually did differently today from Friday) was a combo of modifying epson.conf and installing the KOWA 4870 front end. In any event, my response is WOW! The 4870 under xsane is a VERY nice combo.
Dave, I am glad it is working well for you. I have one question, though, as I have no experience with scanners myself but at this point am thinking about shopping for one and hope to make it work on my Linux PC. You say that you installed the latest release of xsane and its libraries, as well as Epson's KOWA frontend. Isn't xsane a scanning frontend, just as the KOWA software? Do you mean you installed the latest sane libraries? BTW, I am thinking about an EPSON 2400, that's why I came across the KOWA software.
