I believe that he installed it but is using *xsane*.
Correct. In fact, I don't know how to do it any other way. ;-)
Good to know that xsane is working better than the manufacturer's propietary software. So there's no need for me to install the KOWA frontend when I get my scanner :-)
BTW, I am thinking about an EPSON 2400, that's why I came across the KOWA software.
Buy it, got mine at Staples for us$109.95, and am *very* satisfied. Edited /etc/sane.d/epson.conf, plugged in the scanner, started xsane and there it was. VueScan also works well with the 2400 and I have the uncrippled free version, if you want.
I got mine on line for $130. Staples here in the Wash D.C. area claims that it is no longer being stocked by the company. Don't know if that's true, but I couldn't find one in this part of the country.
Here in Colombia we get our hardware always one year late, and I definitely know it's still available here for US$ 209.- Regards, -- Andreas Philipp Noema Ltda. Bogotá, D.C. - Colombia
