Hi:
The kernel line in the grub configurator has a kernel parameter called "resume" that appears to point to a swap partition.
What is this for?
hibernation. It is possible to get the computer to enter a stand-by state where it puts all the contents of the internal memory in the swap partition and powers off. With that resume parameter, the kernel checks the named partition for such a memory image on boot, and if present, restores the machine to the state it was in before hibernation. If you have the kernel sources installed you can read the details in /usr/src/linux/Documentation/power/swsusp.txt
