Have you checked yast for similar settings? I seem to remember something about that in yast as well (its not really a kde thing, its an X thing...)
yast security, check 'Allow Remote Graphical Login'.

And mind the firewall. If it it does not work with the firewall on, try it (briefly) with the firewall off.
There is no firewall configured (both computers are behind the same firewall). Before updating the kernel the other day, I could make it work by removing all the "-nolisten tcp" in /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/Xservers. Cheers, Sune
