(lots of snipping)
The relevant config setting can be found at ~/.kde/share/config/kdeglobals [KDE] EffectAnimateCombo=false EffectAnimateMenu=false EffectAnimateTooltip=false EffectFadeMenu=false EffectFadeTooltip=false *EffectNoTooltip=true* *EffectsEnabled=true* InsertTearOffHandle=0 ShowIconsOnPushButtons=false macStyle=false
Yes! Jim, that worked. Thank you so very much for supplying this great information. On checking our 3 machines I found that two (including the one on my desk) had "effectnotooltip=false." Changing that to "true" got rid of the damned pop-ups. And when I checked my wife's pooter I found that her setting was at "true," thus she did not have the pop-up problem. Now why her setting was different than that on the other two pooters?? Who knows how that happened. But I would never have found this solution without your help. Thanks to everyone who replied! :o) Gil -- j -- nemo me impune lacessit it's just an afterthought; okay ? : A company is known by the people that it keeps.
