I am attempting to install SuSE 9.0 via ftp. Everything works fine until Yast2 gets to the software package selection. Then I get an "unable to read media" error and I cannot go any further.
I don't know if this will help (I have never done an ftp install, and I am still on 8.2), but this sounds like some similar reports from the 8.2 install, both with ftp and onto dvd/cdrw combo drives. I believe the culprit in the combo drive is when it reaches the point to get the package selection, it can no longer read the cd. In that case, some have been able to drop back to a manual install and (in this case) load the ide-scsi module and be able to finish. Obviously, in your case, I'm not sure what module may need loading to be able to continue. Try Alt-F2-4, as they will give you some info. Maybe try at the prompt on Alt-F2 to lsmod, or modprobe a needed module, etc. Just some ideas to maybe help. I think the running log on Alt-F4 will be a big help. ACPI caused some NICs to quit working in 8.2, maybe you need to try a boot parameter like pci=noacpi.
