So go to http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/doc-php/ template.php?company=C-Media&card=CMI8738&chip=CMI8738&module=cmipci where you kan find all the information you need to install the driver.
Those docs are really outdated. If SuSE's ALSA does not include the cmipci driver, compile the tarballs is this order (make sure checkinstall is installed): (1) The drivers: ./configure --with-cards=cmipci --with-sequencer=yes make maki install (2) ALSA-libs ./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc make make install checkinstall (3) ALSA OSS-compat lib ./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc make make install checkinstall (4) ALSA Utils ./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc make make install checkinstall You don't need ALSA-tools. Now run the alsaconf script from the utils subdirectory of the driver source. Charles -- "...[Linux's] capacity to talk via any medium except smoke signals."
