I have a P4C800 Asus board with a 160 gb Seagate SATA drive. When I insert the boot disk to do an nfs install of 8.2 It gets all the way to ide device driver while it is loading the kernal and then freezes. It seems to not like that fact that I don't have a regualr ide drive attached. I have gone into bios and told it that SATA is the primary drive. Has anyone had any experience here that could help me or is Suse 8.2 just not capable right now of installing on a computer that only has a SATA drive

I have installed 8.2 on my home computer, on a SATA drive hooked up to the Promise SATA 150Tx2 controller. Had to add the module to the modules disk first. Tried to make a driver update disk, but was unable to make that work.
I have 8.2 running on an Intel D875PBZ motherboard with SATA disks. It has the same chipset as your P4C800. 8.2 froze out of the box for me as well, but it runs with a Mantel 2.4.21 kernel. In my case, I was able to bootstrap by first telling the BIOS to present the SATA drive in 'Legacy' mode (i.e. PATA emulation), so 8.2 was able to install. I then upgraded the kernel and tested. Finally, I changed grub, fstab and the BIOS settings for SATA compatibility and rebooted. Cheers, Dave
