has anyone ever installed or used the ACCPAC advantage accounting application on suse server?
We are using ACCPAC as a Windows client, but the pervasive database backend is running on 8.0. I have emailed Pervasive (who seem very Linux friendly) about possible gcc problems as I am planning soon to upgrade this machine to 8.2. No response.
I have a client site that's interested in buying another module (inventory). I went to the accpac website www.accpac.com It says it'll work on windows or linux, it uses pervasive sql database or microsoft sql server. (Their accpac server is in aweful shape, I'll have to migrate it to a better server eventually.)
SuSE is the way to go for reliability, BUT the rpms for pervasive are built for Red Hat. It's not drastically different.
I've worked on both databases, so that's not an issue. However, a business application that runs on linux is. This is not a portal (this seems like the best setup to me, it's not client dependant). This app. is a client/server setup.
The ACCPAC tech representative seemed to know the Windows version, buy IMHO knew nothing about Linux. It seems to run well for us, with Windows clients and Linux server (couldn't talk the accountants to switching to Linux YET! -- Joe Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Web Address: http://www.mydestiny.net/~joe_morris Registered Linux user 231871 God said, I AM that I AM.
