Try stopping Zone Alarm and see if it works. It is probably blocking ports 137-139 (and should if this was pointing to the internet) and not allowing SMB to work. If it is the free version, you do not have much ability to control it's settings. You need 137, 138 UDP and 139 TCP open.
Okay Joe, I tried that. Same error. Could this be an internal setting to XP? Also, are you sure that error means something is bad on the client side? So far I haven't been able to find anything that indicates what that error means.
Okay, I fixed this problem. Now I can join the domain using the Computer Name tab in System Properties. I can access the shares on the Samba PDC and get a list of users when adding permissions for shares on the XP boxes. That all works good. The only thing that still doesn't work is the logon screen. If I select the PDC's domain name in the Domain box instead of leaving the computer's name there, it errors out saying 'either the domain name cannot be found or no account could be found for this computer'. Does anyone know if this functionality has been implemented yet? Does anyone actually have XP/2000 boxes making trust connections with a samba pdc? John
