do you have the kvm switch on the linux box when you power on? I've noticed
under serveral different OS's that when you start a machine up, but have the
kvm focus on #2 (for example) that when you switch back, I have no keyboard
or mouse. I've seen this under win2k and linux (under 2000 you have to reboot
the damn machine). Do the ports have any kind of internal power or something
that the pc doesn't recognise unless it's connected first go? when you reload
X does it not query these ports for an active device?

If you hear someone yell, "Empower THIS!!" try to put
some distance between you and whatever happens next.
