This is strange. Has anyone come across this before? I did a complete fresh install of SuSE 8.0 pro. When complete I entered the OS with no problems. Just to make sure I rebooted went back into the newly installed OS again. Everything was fine. I then downloaded the latest 2.4.19 kernel from mantel from 'ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/mantel/next/RPM/k_smp-2.4.19-204.i586.rpm ' (I am running a p4 and the current kernel detected this and installed smp. Uname gave '2.4.18-64GB-smp' or whatever, I can't remember the exact syntax). OK, with no drivers installed, still running a completely fresh install, I opened up kpackage and using the mantel kernel, I updated the current one. I then rebooted to check the new kernel, the screen initializes with 'loading linux.......' then it just hangs. If I try running the 'linux - safe settings' the same thing happens. Whats happened here? I was under the impression the rpm file did everything required to fully update the kernel. Did I miss something, do I need to alter some configuration files? Help : / thanks
