OK, a little terminology KDE = the K Desktop Environment. It's what manages your windows, and stuff XDM = the X Display Manager KDM = the K Display Manager, a KDE version of XDM, but the differences are largely in look&feel, not in protocol. In fact, the underlying source is to a great extent just copied from XDM. XDMCP is the XDM Control Protocol, which is what XDM uses when handling remote sessions, such as your thin client. Your NCD isn't "XDM" aware, it's "XDMCP" aware. and yes, KDM speaks XDMCP, so it should work
