When compiling the alsa kernel modules, make sure you specify the directory for the modules. IIRC, the tag is "--moddir=" and I had to specify /lib/modules/2.4.19 because I did exactly what you did: roll your own using the SuSE sources. If you still can't get it to work, please post back and I'll post better instructions. On Friday 15 November 2002 23:41, harry302 wrote:
I have compiled a new (lean and mean) kernel from the SuSE kernel sources and installed the following
/boot/linux-2.4.18.harry the kernel /boot/System.map-2.4.18.harry /boot/initrd-2,4,18.harry /lib/modules/linux-2.4.18.harry
while keeping the stock SuSE kernel and modules untouched.
I now need to get the sound working but do not know how to. It seems that the alsa module tries to install in the stock SuSE kernel.
how do i tell it where to find the modules, System.map-2.4.18.harry etc.
I have the alsa sources installed and tried locating the information in the documentation but had no such luck.
