Having just been through this Pile of Used Food, I have several hypotheses. Either the server is requiring a specific version (e.g. G2 or RealPlayer 8 or Real Player One) and not saying so. I took what I perceived to be the quickest route. I'm listening now to the RealPlayer which came on my SuSE CD. I lost enough time trying to run more generic versions of RP. In fact, compared to the length of time it takes to connect on Win2K with RP One, and the multiple dependencies on responding servers, I'll settle for the minimal SuSE version. I have NS 6.2 running (standard on-line download, not SuSE version), but I have found no browser plug-in capabilities with RP on my SuSE 7.3. The simple SuSE RP doesn't care whether I have a browser running. I start up NS only when Opera or Konq fail, so I'm happy with the independence. To set up internet radio stations on the SuSE RP, I must find the web sites of the stations and save their .ram files to my master directory of .ram files. Once that is done, there is no dependency on any RealPlayer server being accessible; only my local telco server and the target station. It all works well enough that I haven't questioned why the radio stations assume that only overseas listeners and urban dwellers would want to hear them over internet. -- Tim Prince
