I took the jfsutils-1.0.15.tar.gz file from JFS site and built an rpm (rpm -tb jfsutils-1.0.15.tar.gz) which put an rpm file in "/usr/src/packages/RPMS/i383/jfs....rpm". When I installed: rpm -Uvh jfsutils....rpm I get several conflict errors similar to: "file /sbin/fsck.jfs from install of jfsutils-1.0.15-1 conflicts with file from package jfsprogs-1.0.10-6"
Since SuSE called their rpm jfsprogs and IBM called theirs jfsutils RPM isn't intelligent enough to realize it's the same thing. Now, I'm not an expert on rpm, so perhaps there's a way to do this automatically, but since all rpm -Uvh does is uninstall of the previous version and an install of the current, you could do
rpm -e jfsprogs rpm -ivh jfsutils-1.0.15-1.rpm
which works. but as I said before, if I were you I'd try these things out on a partition where you don't put "important" data until you've tested it properly. SuSE has a "test lab" and these things haven't been through it nearly enough to call it "enterprise ready". It could crash and take your data with it.
