just add apache to the users group.
permissions owner group directory
============================================
rwx --x --x root root /home
rwx --x --- paul wwwrun /home/paul
rwx --x --- paul wwwrun /home/paul/dir_1
rwx r-x --- paul wwwrun /home/paul/dir_1/webpages
(oh, and yes to your other question ...)

try :
user : paul group : users
permissions owner group directory ============================================= rwx --x --x root root /home rwx rwx --- paul users /home/paul
This should allow the user paul to change into /home/paul, but not get a directory listing of /home.
Hope this helps.
Paul Miles All Secure Networks Okay, that helps, but now Apache can't go into their homepage-directories. o+x for /home then? and o+x for all the userdirs? o+rx for /home/user/public_html??
Rogier (thanks!)
