Bash-script simple question

Hi Hey
How do I do following in bash:
chmod 0666
(Yes I know, I should really read man bash, but not now, too busy at the moment...) Yes, you should and so should I, and I have; couldn't find it!
Perhaps the one who answers you (us?) could also tell me (us?) if it's possible to let directories users have no rights for, be invisible.. I think it's kinda related, don't you think? For example: if a user goes into the /home directory, it now shows all directories. The user can't go in any of them but his own, but he sees them nevertheless.

try :
user : paul
group : users
permissions owner group directory
=============================================
rwx --x --x root root /home
rwx rwx --- paul users /home/paul
This should allow the user paul to change into /home/paul, but not get a
directory listing of /home.
Hope this helps.

Paul Miles All Secure Networks Okay, that helps, but now Apache can't go into their homepage-directories. o+x for /home then? and o+x for all the userdirs? o+rx for /home/user/public_html??
Rogier (thanks!)
just add apache to the users group.

rwx --x --x root root /home
rwx --x --- paul wwwrun /home/paul
rwx --x --- paul wwwrun /home/paul/dir_1
rwx r-x --- paul wwwrun /home/paul/dir_1/webpages
(oh, and yes to your other question ...)

So actually this must read: permissions owner group directory ============================================ rwx --x --x root root /home rwx --x --- paul users /home/paul rwx --x --- paul users /home/paul/dir_1 rwx r-x --- paul users /home/paul/dir_1/webpages ?? And add user 'wwwrun' to the 'users'-group?
(oh, and yes to your other question ...)
So that means: 1) don't have the g+rwx for the home-directories 2) you're going to change your /home directory's settings! ;-)

Thanks again!
try :
user : paul group : users
permissions owner group directory ============================================= rwx --x --x root root /home rwx rwx --- paul users /home/paul
Isn't this allowing other users in the same group (users) to read/write paul's directory? Rogier Maas

Look at the find command. You can specify files only and then execute a command on them. I would write out the command for you, but not now, too busy. :) Greg Engel
