Howdy,
I have been under the impression that I could compile SRPMs for the Athlon architecture, parthly because 'ls /usr/src/packages/RPMS/' shows:
athlon i386 i486 i586 i686 noarch
But when I actually try it:
rpm --rebuild --target=athlon ~jw/everybuddy-0.2.1beta6-1.src.rpm
I get the following errors:
checking for gcc... gcc checking whether the C compiler (gcc -O2 -march=athlon ) works... no configure: error: installation or configuration problem: C compiler cannot create executables. Bad exit status from /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.20686 (%prep)
Any ideas/comments?
Yes, you need gcc 3.0 to compile specifically for the athlon architecture and
your SuSE distribution is shipped with 2.95.x. Th SuSE package for gcc 3 is
still experimental but you can find it here:
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/aj/GCC3.0
