Did you set in your /etc/modules.conf the parameter scsi_hostadapter (something to that effect) ide-scsi ? so it should be something like: scsi_hostadapter ide-scsi Matt On Tue, 29 May 2001, Rafael E. Herrera wrote:

I'm using kernel 2.4.2 and I have a scsi cd writer & an ATAPI cd writer (hdb), I have set lilo to append hdb=ide-scsi. My normal scsi cd writer is addressed as /dev/scd0 and works OK, anybody know what address I should use to connect the ATAPI cd writer now?

It has already been mentioned here that the information is in /var/log/messages:
...: scsi0 : SCSI host adapter emulation for IDE ATAPI devices ...: Vendor: HP Model: CD-Writer+ 9100 Rev: 1.0b ...: Type: CD-ROM ANSI SCSI revision: 02 ...: Detected scsi CD-ROM sr0 at scsi0, channel 0, id 0, lun 0 ...: sr0: scsi3-mmc drive: 32x/32x writer cd/rw xa/form2 cdda tray
Have you loaded the driver for your scsi controller? From the looks of the above, you just loaded the scsi emulator.
Run "cdrecord --scanbus" again, the order in which the devices appear is the order in which you have to refer to the devices, /dev/scd0, /dev/scd1, etc.
