Linux is indeed Linux, and we need to stick together as much as possible... but I understand a lot of people being "fed up" with Red Hat. Red Hat was my first Linux distro (version 5.1), which I soon replaced with SuSE (5.3), partly for the amount of added software, but also because it's more stable, more secure and better documented than Red Hat. I recently tested RH 6.2 and 7.0 out of the box, and I find them full of security holes, and in desperate need of patches, and reconfiguration. Where a SuSE 7.1 out of the box worked fine and offers a fair level of security. (Just check out the existing Linux-Worms, almost all of them target Red Hat systems) But what bothers me most about RH is that they're going down the same road as M$... They have exclusive deals with a number of software vendors (like Rational, which only supports its products on RH, because the made a 'deal'). And that is not fair to other distro's... Competition between Linux internally should be about features, stability, support or documentation. Not the same politics that are trying to kill the Open Source spirit.

From: "Herman Knief" If you are willing to suffer with a RedHat distro release... go for it
Wow! Herm your going to a bit of extreme w/ redhat are you not sir! I thought this was a linux(kernel same in all distro's)community project here and it is free abiding by our choice of the license correct! Or did I miss the downloading of/or cvs of source not being free? By the way the compiler issues w/redhat are dead and it is doing fine I downloaded the first beta and have been updating it since now running 2.4.2 all source is compiling great! I should say that SuSE has some major problems with the yast1 text based installer this time, some of us notice this stuff but don't flame each others preffered distros ot the want for an iso to burn................chill out guys it is linux, the same kernel code in all of the distros........ If a script or compiler, source or something is missing to cry fixit, I will say by the way though, I am in every way paying and supporting Linux for its continued growth, however I do to like free beer!
