Hi If you are looking at gui ide/rad then i suggest u look at VDKBuilder which is a very good C++ based env. There is supposed to be something called magic (magic-sw.com) but it is not free (abt $300).VDK builder is GPL'd and free, and is hosted on sourceforge( i forget the exact url).
I decided agenst magic as it was one of the fring languages and not mainstream enogh , as well as it was quit pricy. I also tried out omnis and it is so so . Its languag is also not mainstream enough as well. It is however quit mature and suports clent server very well. It also had a weird dot notation scheam that was not easy to navigate or edit/modify as far as higher up objects were concerned. The languagebits self was not mainstream either and I felt it had a steep learning curve and I realy did not want to go to all the effort with this particular product. It was RAD for the simple flat file stuff , but any thing more you would have to get down and dirty in the source code to get any thing done , which brings me back to the learning curve and the stangeness of the language it is based on. Soooo , I am back to python for the time being , as it is simple , had dome realy nice list and dictionarys , hooks to postgress and sevveral realy well written book most notably Core pyhton and Alen Gaulds new book how to program python , shorter than core python but broken down into real concise chapters. seems like a fast ramp up. It also hashooks to TK and I thing GTK as well. Not as robust a visual componet enviorment as delphi but close. well close enough and general enough that I am willing to put some time into it. Other than that I am also waiting for Kylex to come out , and am almost sure to buy that when it does as its a real rad tool with a real language as weel as true components visual and handle data and sql as well.
