I was reading somewhere a couple of months ago that a software house is in the process of producing a M$ Exchange server clone that will run on Linux and a clone of outlook to run on Linux. This is claimed to be compatible with the M$ products.
Obviously this is not open source, but it should be far less expensive the M$ equivalents.
Sorry I can't remember any more details.

appreciate any advice on what products in the SuSE 7.0 distribution could Although it is not free (bummer) Lotus Domino is available for Linux, you can get a demo at www.lotus.com.
All the ones 'in the know' in these type of things assure me that MS Outlook is a poor copy of Domino. From my own experience with Oulook, I'd say that there _has_ to be something better! Big, ugly, and a right bitch to organise (sounds like my first wife!!)
