I'm running some remote applications from Sun Solaris on Linux box. Every time I have to switch Linux X server from 32 bpp to 8 bpp color depth mode. Otherwise I'm getting this warning and remote application won't start.

Is it possible to change some variables in /etc/XF86Config or /etc/X11/xdm/Xservers to run Linux X server with local applications in default 32 bpp color mode and in the same time allow remote application use 8 bpp color mode without restarting X server? Could somebody please send me an example of such configuration.
Have a look at Xnest (man Xnest or at http://www.xfree86.org/4.0.1/Xnest.1.html), which is included in package "xextra". This allows you to run a "nested X-Server" inside of another X-Server, even with a different color depth.
I'm using Xnest from xextra-4.0.1-5 and it does not allow color depths different than the one from the underlying X server, 16 bit in my case. In which instances it works as you say? -- Rafael -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq
